ksa questions

if you indicated that you meet the one year specialized experience in the previous question, please provide examples of experience that best support your selection and provide the beginning and ending dates the experience was gained. indicate where this experience is reflected on your resume (i.e. identify the specific experience and dates), but do not paste your resume here.

since the early 1990s, i have been actively involved in public health training, education, program management, and operations/administration.
progressing from a supportive independent living coach for the association for retarded citizens (1995-1998), therapist with family and child solutions (1998-1999), human services program specialist with florida department of children and families (1999-2000), mental health specialist with the united states army reserve (1994-2002), and social service caseworker with fulton county department of family and children services (2001) i quickly assumed the role of statewide staff developer/training coordinator for the georgia department of human resources division of mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictive diseases (2001-2004).

there, i was responsible for developing course outlines and training curricula and implementing training/education programs targeting state-wide regional staff and overseeing adjunct faculty and consultants in delivering courses through regional offices.  i successfully evaluated division objectives, short-/long-term goals and training/education requirements in order to customize these training/education programs for optimal results.

i then accepted a consultant position with human services and consulting inc. (2004-2007) where, again, a key responsibility was to design and facilitate proactive educational programs and activities focused on mental health and substance abuse issues and targeting broad populations across community organizations, school systems and businesses.  in this position, it was also vital that i effectively steer research to develop dynamic service plans and programs supporting public health initiatives. most recently, from 2008-present, i have been the director of an early child-care learning center, where one of my many roles is to design curricula and educational programs as well as creating effective training programs for both paid and volunteer staff.

in developing these programs, both recently and in the past, i have consistently had to ensure critical compliance with not only internal, but state and federal guidelines and regulations; i proactively maintain a continual knowledge of public health issues, reform initiatives and new policy. additionally, you will find that i offer a wealth of experience in planning and administering budgets, generating program funding, steering full-scope administrative and fiscal operations, negotiating and managing contracts/agreements, driving program marketing, and spearheading all human resource operations.

complementing this, my academic background, beginning with a psychiatric specialist diploma and bs in psychology, progressing to a masters degree in social work, and more recently culminating in a doctorate degree in education, strongly supports my qualifications for this position.

i offer a rich academic background well-suited to supporting this position.  in 2003 i earned a doctorate degree in education, focused on programs management through nova southeastern university.  prior to that i earned a masters degree in social work from barry university.  i also offer a bs in psychology as well as a psychiatric specialist diploma.  my academic background clearly demonstrates my focus on a career in public health and education.

complementing this, over the course of many years i have assumed progressive responsibilities in developing and implementing effective training and education programs.  in particular, from 2001-2004 i was the statewide developer/ training coordinator for the georgia department of human resources division of mental health, developmental disabilities and addictive diseases, based in atlanta.  in this capacity, i successfully planned and coordinated statewide training programs for adjunct faculty/consultants/regional staff.  this included developing outlines and training curricula.  using a wide range of techniques/methodologies including lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, role playing, and audio-visual tools, i successfully implemented a variety of training and education programs focused on issues of mental health, developmental disabilities and addictive diseases.

as a consultant with human services and consulting inc., atlanta, from 2004-2007, i successfully planned, developed and executed mental health programs, including designing and facilitating dynamic community outreach/education programs on a variety of mental health and substance abuse issues, delivering presentations to community organizations, schools and businesses.

much of my career has been focused in team-oriented, collaborative organizational structures with varied public health frameworks.  as a social service caseworker with the georgia department of human resources fulton county department of family and children services, i worked closely with community resources ranging from medical, dental, mental health, and therapeutic providers to health department and educational sources in order to develop and implement results-oriented public health/ social service programs.

prior to this, as a mental health specialist with the united states army reserve, i partnered with multidisciplinary team members both in counseling/treatment and hospital/clinical settings to deliver quality services addressing personal, behavioral and mental health issues, including psychiatric patients and well as drug and alcohol abusers.

earlier in my career i was a human services program specialist with the florida department of children and families alcohol, drug abuse and mental health program.  in this capacity i was actively involved in steering programs not only in substance abuse and mental health, but hiv/aids.  again, this required working with a cross-functional team of medical, mental health and community resources through direct interface and collaboration.  launching my career as a therapist, i worked closely with the local school system and treatment team to deliver quality psychological services for referred families and children through individual, group and family treatment programs.
