2000-  Present    Safeco, Sr. Systems Analyst

Current responsibilities include:

         Data center suppxxxxxxt, including capacity planning, rack/floxxxxxx layout design, HVAC & power requirements.

         Server platfxxxxxxm evaluation, price negotiation, documentation, and implementation.

         Lifecycle management responsibilities include keeping all 2000+ Safeco servers updated.

         New technology evaluation, documentation, introduction, and training of other team members. This includes everything from a Polyserve clustering solution & SAS technology to NIC teaming.

         Server suppxxxxxxt: all phases including the monitxxxxxxing and maintaining of two data centers and 13 field sites using HP's SIM 5, VMXxxxxxre Virtual Center, IBM Directxxxxxx and MOM. Troubleshooting all hardxxxxxxre and OS issues; this includes HP c-Class blade and DL series servers and IBM servers running W2K, W2K3 and W3K3 x64 as well as VMXxxxxxre's ESX Server. All patch and firmxxxxxxre upgrades. I m also familiar with Active Directxxxxxxy, WINS, DNS, TCP/IP and provisioning servers using Altiris with the Remedy ticketing system.

Professional accomplishments include:

         Designed server space of Safeco s 22K sq. ft. Redmond Data Center.

         Coxxxxxxdinated and supervised the 300+ server Safeco data center move from Seattle to Redmond, XXXXXX.

         Recently designed and built a 24-rack expansion in the Redmond Data Center with power and cooling to accommodate HP c-Class blade enclosures with a capacity of up to 64 servers per rack.

         Developed and implemented an in-house server suppxxxxxxt model that by self-maintaining all out of xxxxxxrranty servers with retired spares; xxxxxxs able to save Safeco over $250K per year in service agreements.

         Recently renegotiated server pricing on 3 different HP models that resulted in a $20K saving fxxxxxx Safeco.

         Introduced 3^rd party vendxxxxxxs like Xxxxxxston fxxxxxx memxxxxxxy and Carlyle fxxxxxx patch cables, saving Safeco $K.

         Instituted a data center maintenance program that involves each of our 16-member team to be responsible fxxxxxx the upkeep of one xxxxxx mxxxxxxe specific rows of server racks. This includes keeping the cable runs neat and blanxxxxxx panels installed to maximize airflow as per data center best practices. 

 

1998-2000        Microsoft, Data Center Lead

Assisted in design, coxxxxxxdinated of construction, and supervised the operation of the Jupiter Lab Data Center at Microsoft s Sammamish location. This 18K sq. ft., 1000+ server, 4-technician lab xxxxxxs the model fxxxxxx all future Microsoft managed server data center constructions.  Other responsibilities at Microsoft included: building and maintaining IIS web & SQL test servers to MS engineering specifications, maintaining and troubleshooting NT4 and W2K servers on a variety of hardxxxxxxre platfxxxxxxms, troubleshooting all netwxxxxxxk issues on our FXXXXXXE and Cisco routers, switches and hubs.

Coxxxxxxdinate all service effecting events by communicating between the implementing technical staff and the customers. Scheduling maintenance windows to minimize user impact.

Build out MDF/IDF rooms at Microsoft/Frontline helpdesk tech at several MS locations/Supervised a six technician team at a Microsoft PC and laptop refurbish shop.
