A) Knowledge of Criminal Justice principles and practices especially as it pertains to Victims and  Witnesses.  

I offer both academic and professional/practical background demonstrating solid qualifications in criminal justice principles and practices, including impact on and implications in victim and witness issues. Academically, I am in the process of completing  my Juris Doctor through Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.  I earned a Masters of Public Health in 2008 and was previously awarded a BA in Justice in 2002.  This has provided me with a wealth of knowledge in the criminal justice system.

 

Currently, I am an Intern with the Innocence Project Clinic of Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law in Washington, DC.  In support of this organization, a working knowledge of criminal justice practices and principles is key to effectively conducting investigative legal research of criminal court cases, and I have worked closely with the U.S. Attorney General s Office in support of my work.

 

My professional background includes Program Consultant with Speaking Out About Rape (SOAR), 2006-2007,  as well as Outreach Coordinator with Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), 2001-2006.  In each of these positions, I proficiently applied my knowledge of the criminal justice system in developing, launching and managing victim support and public awareness programs.  I thoroughly understand the role of the criminal justice system, its practices and its principles in facilitating programs that deliver quality victim assistance. 

 

B) Organizational/program management skills and proven self initiating work habits.

 

Much of my career has centered on program management in self-driven environments.  Presently, I am a Charity Research Analyst with the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB), where I am responsible for organizing and administering charity evaluation programs focused on ensuring compliance with CBBB Wise Giving Alliance standards. As Program Consultant with SOAR, I clearly demonstrated subject matter expertise as well as advanced skills in strategically driving effective programs by providing both consultation and assistance in researching, evaluating and implementing the planning of a variety of programs.

Further illustrating my ability to self-manage as well as my solid organization, strategic planning, prioritization, and project management abilities, since 2005 I have been self-employed as a Private Researcher/Archivist, spearheading National Archives research projects for individuals and corporations.  Similarly, my current Internship with the Innocence Project requires the ability to efficiently coordinate and manage investigative legal research and writing projects in a self-driven setting.

 

Complementing this, I believe my ongoing academic pursuits concurrent with career development clearly demonstrates that I am a driven, self-motivated person who is highly effectively in simultaneously managing multiple goals and organizing time and resources to consistently achieve objectives.

 

 

C) Ability to work effectively and provide advice/assistance to individuals in crisis.

While serving as Outreach Coordinator with RAINN, a primary focus was placed on providing dynamic crisis intervention and supportive services.  Recognizing that many victims of rape, abuse and incest need to be encouraged to seek assistance, often demand anonymity and require easy access to service,  I collaborated with major national and local organizations in  creating and establishing an innovative online counseling program. 

 

Further optimizing delivery of crisis intervention and supportive services, I proactively recruited rape crisis centers across the country to generate a 25% increase in our telephone sexual assault hotline network membership.   I also designed and executed a survey of over 1.1K nationwide rape crisis centers to gather and analyze data critical to defining and addressing victim needs through delivery of optimal crisis intervention and support programs.

 

Of note, to enhance my skills and knowledge in advising and assisting individuals in crisis, I am in the process of completing National Sexual Assault Online Hotline Training through RAINN.  I also believe that my strong communication, needs assessment and interpersonal relation skills are vital tools in providing quality crisis advice/assistance.
